Welcome, I write about everything here

Every blog starts with this post. The one where the author explains why they’ve claimed yet another corner of the internet when there are already so many. Let’s get through it quickly.

I started this blog because I got tired of leaving my thoughts in places where they disappear. A message in a group chat, a comment on a forum, a photo in a gallery nobody opens anymore. The things I care about deserve a place of their own, and this is that place.

What you’ll find here

Tech and IT – The hands-on part, not press releases. What I installed, what I broke, what I fixed at three in the morning. Setups that worked, setups that didn’t, and why. If I lost an entire day to an error, I’ll write it up so you only lose five minutes.

Gaming – Not launch-day reviews with a score out of ten. More like what I played this month, what kept me up, and what I dropped after two hours with zero regrets. Plus hardware talk, because the two go together.

Travel – Places, roads, things that don’t make it into guidebooks. What it actually cost, what I’d do differently, where I ate well by accident.

Everything else – This category is honest: whatever’s on my mind at the time and deserves more than one paragraph.

How I’ll write

Three rules I’m setting for myself from the start:

  1. I only write about things I’ve actually used. No “top 10 gadgets” lists assembled from other people’s articles.
  2. I’ll tell you what didn’t work. Posts where everything goes right on the first try are useless.
  3. No filler. If a topic deserves 400 words, it gets 400 words.

About me

COLBYLICIOUS. That’s the name you’ll find me under, and the only one I need here.

I’m from Romania and I’ve been around computers since I was young, young enough to break things well before I learned to fix them. I never really left.

Self-hosting and infrastructure are a hobby, not a job. That distinction matters: I’m not selling anything, I have no partnerships, and nobody pays for my servers but me. When I write that a provider let me down, it’s because they let me down, on my own money. I’ve spent years on hosting forums, where I learned more from other people’s mistakes than from any documentation, and, to be fair, plenty from my own.

What keeps me around those places isn’t the information, it’s the people. I like lending a hand when someone’s stuck on a config, answering the question that once cost me three days, saying “I hit this too, here’s what worked.” There’s nothing noble about it, that’s just the fun part. A good community is the difference between a hobby that frustrates you and one that keeps you up by choice.

This blog is where I put everything that used to end up scattered across forum comments.

Stick around

If any of the above sounds like something you’d read, subscribe or check back now and then. And if you have a question, a correction, or a topic suggestion, the comments are open. I actually read them.

See you in the next post.
